Our independent Elgin taproom has brought people together over rotating craft beers and an ever-growing whisky selection since 2018.
About us
Against The Grain was launched in July 2018 in the Moray craft beer scene as a place where friends, family and strangers alike could come, meet and chat over some awesome craft brews. To keep things fresh, our beer selection is always changing — so there's always something new to try.
We stock a large mix of core range, limited releases and international beers and ciders. Not a craft beer drinker? Don't worry! Whether you're a fan of German lagers, Irish stouts, funky sours, Belgian ales, alcohol free and everything in between, we've got you covered.
After something else? We've got a selection of Scottish gins, rums, vodkas and mixers to go with. We also cater to the wine drinkers too — and you'll be glad to know the wines aren't Scottish!
Thanks to both our wonderful locals and international visitors supporting us over the years, we've been able to grow our venue and expand into the world of whisky — which, with us being in the heart of Speyside, would be daft not to do! We've always said whisky is what beer wants to be when it grows up, which is what makes them work so well together.

How we got here
Why Against The Grain?
The name was born from our aim of doing things a bit differently from other bars. We want to stand out by showcasing an ever-changing offering rather than a static selection. This way, the guest gets the same high-quality service while trying something new with each visit.
Where did the idea come from?
It all began with a love for craft beer, a passion cultivated through enjoying and even home brewing unique brews. We wanted to create a local haven in Moray where fellow enthusiasts could explore an unparalleled selection from around the globe, many unavailable anywhere else nearby.
What are the plans for the future?
Since the beginning we've steadily added to our core offering. We've expanded and renovated our bar and are now doing the same with our online presence - our shop is now live! We're also working on further collaborations with breweries, distilleries and independent bottlers for tastings and more — stay tuned!
